Reopening Insane Asylum Museum of San Servolo

It is now possible to visit the Museum every day (from Monday to Friday, Saturday and Sunday close) with a visit at 11.50  am (public waterbus line 20 at 11.30 from San Zaccaria) and one at 2.45  pm (public waterbus line 20 at 2.30 p.m.).

On 29th and 30th of May, 2 June the museum will be open from 11.45 until 16.45

In accordance with national and regional plans on pandemic containment and the management of COVID-19 emergency, visitors will be required to wear a mask, follow the instructions of the staff and undergo to the measurement of body temperature.

The Asylum Museum exhibits objects and documents that belonged to the psychiatric hospital active until 1978 and tells the stories of reclusion and discomfort of the patients. The exhibition itinerary includes a visit to the 18th century church called by the Venetians “church of the two bell towers” with frescoes by Jacopo Marieschi and the wonderful “Nacchini” organ, the anatomic room and the ancient pharmacy active on the island since 1716 with the hospitallers Fathers of St. John of God, better known in Italy as Fatebenefratelli, expert pharmacists and doctors. After visiting you may take a walk in the wonderful park of the island, with its centuries-old trees, contemporary art installations in the open air and the breathtaking panorama of the Venice lagoon.
